Meet Therapist Annie Hamilton
About Me
What to expect from working with me
Hi there, I’m glad you’re here. My goal is to help you live the life you want. I believe that there is no universal way to use therapy and not every type of intervention will work for every person. I want to get to know you as we work together to find a style and approach that is helpful to YOU.
I believe that we are all capable of healing. My role is to create a trusting space where learning, change, and growth can occur. I have experience and training in relational feminist practice, CBT, DBT, and EMDR. We’ll work together to explore which techniques and approaches will help you live the life you want to live.
I have a relaxed and casual style. I love to use humor, when appropriate, and I definitely want to see photos of your pets/babies/plants/art etc. We are here to do really hard work AND I want to get to know you as a whole person.
My background
The first time I experienced the transformative power of accompanying another person through their pain was as a volunteer on a sexual violence hotline. This experience led me to complete a dual degree in social work and public health to better understand the connections between policy, power, and individual suffering. After graduating, I’ve worked in a variety of settings including a college counseling center and a large outpatient primary care clinic. I’ve worked with people healing from trauma throughout my career. I enjoy working with adults of all ages.
Power and Therapy
I strive to center my client’s agency throughout the therapeutic process and that includes how and when we discuss politics, power, identities, and our own relationship dynamics. I sincerely believe that systemic oppression and power structures impact our individual healing journeys. The therapeutic space is not immune to the power dynamics of the world around us. I believe there is healing in naming this reality. I’ll let you set the pace as I welcome these conversations into our therapeutic relationship.
Fun facts
I grew up in Atlanta and have lived in Boston and San Francisco. I love biking, transportation justice, swimming, and eating pizza. I recently moved to Maine where I live with my wife and amazing cat, Roger.
