About Me
Welcome to a Guided Journey
We often come to therapy because we are lost in the woods of our lives. Sometimes the woods are dark and scary, sometimes they are just confusing. Somehow we have gone off the path, thinking we knew the way, and have come to realize we are not where we had hoped to be. Perhaps we never had a clear path to begin with. I see my role as a guide and companion on your journey from where you are to where you would like to be—I’ll hold a map and flashlight and walk alongside you as you discover the directions you’d like to go.
I am passionate about supporting people in developing fulfillment in their lives, and in helping to resolve any conflicts that have created barriers to achieving that. I provide people I work with the time, space, and nonjudgmental support needed to reflect on life’s challenges and how we experience ourselves and our world.
Beliefs Hold the Key
The beliefs we hold about ourselves and the world around us are the foundation upon which we build our lives. We gather them from our childhood experiences, caregivers and families, relationships, culture, and society. Some beliefs are helpful and shape us in unique and positive ways, while others can hold us back. Together, we can form a deeper understanding of your foundational beliefs to understand your experiences and find greater meaning in them, which is key to healing and self-awareness.
You might think of it this way: if our foundation is cracked and every storm threatens to flatten our homes, we will be traumatized by the slightest breeze. If our foundation is strong and supports our homes in protecting us from the weather outside, we can find strength and confidence when the storms build on the horizon.
My Journey to Becoming a Guide
My interest in psychology began during my undergraduate career as I discovered its significance in my own life. I learned about what society has constructed as “deviant”—which meant that I would be identified as such. This is prevalent in the areas of substance use and mental illness and sexuality, and I have devoted my education and practice to deconstructing and normalizing these aspects of human life and behavior. I attended graduate school where I developed particular interest and training in working with substance use and recovery, and have since worked as a clinician in a variety of settings and including inpatient treatment centers, intensive outpatient programs, group therapy, and individual counseling.
Over time, I realized something was missing in my work. I looked around my community and saw my LGBTQIA+ friends and peers struggling to receive the mental health support they desperately needed and deserved due to a lack of queer competent providers. I reached back to my long held passion for social psychology and “deviance” to pull forward my devotion to normalize the “abnormal” and combined it with wisdom from my own lived experiences with sexuality and identity. I am proud to offer nonjudgmental, intersectional mental health care that is affirming of identities, sexualities, and love styles. I not only want to help normalize your experiences, but to support your flourishing in wellness.
